What we believe

We believe and teach historic Christianity as found in Holy Scripture and summarized in the three creeds (Nicene, Apostles and Athanasian) and the 39 Articles of Religion.

We believe the Holy Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments, as containing all things necessary to salvation, and as being the rule and ultimate standard of faith.

We believe in the uniqueness of our Lord Jesus Christ, who is God incarnate and fully human. By reason of his miraculous birth of the Virgin Mary, sinless life, atoning death, bodily resurrection, glorious ascension and triumphant reign, he is the only Mediator between God and man. “And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.” (Acts 4:12 ESV)

We believe in the centrality of the Cross of Jesus. The Apostle Paul summarized the core of his message when he said to the Corinthians, “I decided to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ and him crucified.” (1 Corinthians 2:2 ESV)

We believe in the need for personal conversion, leading to new life in Christ. The faithful church does not proclaim a message about making bad people good, but rather a message of God making dead people alive.  “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.” (2 Corinthians 5:17 ESV) Jesus himself taught that, “unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.” (John 3:3 ESV)

We believe in justification by grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone.

We believe that we are healed, transformed and empowered by the gracious, continuing activity of the Holy Spirit who perfects our repentance, nurtures the new life implanted within us, transforms us into Christ’s image, and enables us to do good works in the world.

We also believe in the priority of evangelism, the importance of the church, and the expectation of the Lord’s return.

The  Nicene Creed

We believe in one God,

the Father, the Almighty,

maker of heaven and earth,

of all that is, visible and invisible.

We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God,   begotten, not made,

of one Being with the Father; through him all things were made.

For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven, was incarnate from the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary, and was made man.

For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried.

On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven

and is seated at the right hand of the Father.

He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end.

We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son,

who with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets.

We believe in one holy catholic(universal) and apostolic Church.   We acknowledge one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead,

and the life of the world to come. Amen.
